Seaside, Oregon Family Vacation July 08

We went on our first family vacation to Seaside, Oregon and loved it! We rented a beach house with another family who has been our best friends for almost 7 years now. It took us 2 days to get to Seaside, we spent 6 days at the beach house and another 2 days to get home. When you travel with small children everything takes a long time to get to! There was the ever present "Are we there yet?" Now I know how my parents felt! I'm grateful for the memories I have of going to the beach in my childhood, now it's time to create those same memories for our children.
On the Road

Our rig inside and out

I've got to help them kick their habit!

So this is Stonehenge that overlooks the Columbia River. It is a peace memorial erected to memorialize the 13 soldiers who died in WWI from this area. Sam Hill is also buried here. I'm still trying to figure out who in the "Sam Hill" he is!

View of the Columbia river from Stonehenge

Mount Hood, a dead volcano, in the background

This is where the promenade begins along the beach. We actually walked here from our beach house.

Beach Combers

On 2 of the mornings we woke up early to pick up sand dollars and seashells at low tide. This was my favorite thing to do!

Fun on the Beach!

The weather the entire trip was overcast, the temperature reached no higher than 71 degrees, and the wind was persistent, but that didn't stop us from having fun!

Chris and Sidney wave jumping

Sidney's face says it all...FRIGID!

Logan's 1st real experience with sand

Cannon Beach (The Goonies rock)

Cannon beach is where Goonies was filmed, it is also where the tide pools are exposed at lowtide to reveal protected sea life. Lowtide was at 7:30 am, yes, we were actually up before 9am on vacation! It was all worth it. The beauty is beyond what our pictures could capture. My favorite was the morning sea mist.

Sea mist!

Surfer Dudes and Dudette!
So Chris decided to take Jacob boogie boarding in the Ocean! The water was 50 degrees so it was recommended to get full body gear. That day was especially cold so the kids and I came later to the beach and by that time Jacob was spent so I didn't get any pictures of him in the water. But from what Chris says, he was a surfin machine! I'm so proud of my brave surfer boys!

What great pictures! I absolutely love the one of Sidney and Christ "wave jumping". It's beautiful. Oh, I'm so jealous, oregon looks beautiful. I've heard lots of great things about the state but never experienced it. That's it, I'm planning an Oregon vacation. Thanks for the update!

Wow, looks like so much fun!! Goonies Rocks...so cool that you got to go to that beach!! I think it's great that you guys braved that long drive...It reminds me of our long drives for vacation when we were kids...I don't know how our parents did it!!
Oh about the tag thing...just copy and paste my questions and then put it into your post, but just answer the questions with your answers. Then when you're done, tag others. Just a way to get to know more about others.

Very cool pictures! That is cool, the Goonies Rocks! Yeah as a kid I always dreaded the long vacation drives. The drive was usually to CA, but always had a blast visiting cousins and all!
